Doldrums

One of the definitions of doldrums:

a state or period of inactivity, stagnation, or slump

I feel like that right now.  I just feel confined and stagnate.   I think it’s from me working all the time it seems, feeling guilty if I want to take off a day, and having just about everyone I love and need living in Savannah while I live here in Atlanta.  Atlanta is just not the town for me.  It overwhelms me. I want to move home. I’m lonely; right now, I’m feeling like I will always be single and being alone up here doesn’t help.

There’s other feelings about my life right now, but missing my family is the biggest at the moment.

Until then, I’m here in Atlanta. 🙁

This past weekend, I purchased this new toy:

It is a La Sardina Fischers Fritze Camera from Lomography. I’ve been wanting it for a while and found one at The Camera Doctor out in Decatur. It’s a film camera that takes standard 35mm film you buy at the store. It’s a wide angle camera.  The flash, with the proper adapter, can be used on any other camera that has a hot shoe flash port.  That means I can use the flash with my Canon AE-1 and my Canon Rebel XS. The flash also has some colored diffusers that I’ve been experimenting with when shooting cat photos with the Rebel XS.

Once the roll of film is completed, I will have it developed along with another roll of film from the AE-1 that needs to be developed.  As a child growing up, film and developing was a luxury.  I’ve been cautious with what I shoot with the AE-1.  I also find myself doing the same with this camera.

I took a few shots without the flash in dark light and I was afraid I messed up.   The beautiful thing about this camera is you can do a double exposure. So, I shot another photo on top, this time with my manually tripping the flash.  Found out later that I didn’t have the camera set up properly with the lens, so the circuit between the shutter and the flash was not completed. Once I used the computer to troubleshoot it, I got the flash to work.

I’m glad I went to the Camera Doctor and bought the camera there.  I saw plenty of cameras there.  It was a film camera paradise. I saw some of the other Lomography cameras I thought would be cool to have.  Maybe one day when I have the money. 😆

Silly map stuff
Posted on May 22nd, 2012 @ 10:00 pm

Because I’m bored. 😆

I think it’s time to update the info in this I Need To Travel More post. Sadly, no new states to add.  However, I have changed the map to represent states I’ve slept over night in.

This map is missing Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Massachusetts. I only ended up in Indiana due to a wrong turn my parents made on a trip when I was 8.  Illinois has be mainly a drive-by state, but I did spend some time in Metropolis. Delaware is drive thru state.  However, I did stop there long enough to use the service station off I-95 south.  I spent the day in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts on their visits, later to travel back to where I was staying in another state.

So far, in 2012, I have only been in Georgia.  I would like to go out of state, but I feel like it’s out of the question this year.  Too much turmoil in my life at the moment.

Shaming is Shameful
Posted on May 13th, 2012 @ 9:37 pm

I saw this story on Fark yesterday: Former Beaverton church members sued over online comments.  Basically, a family went to a church.  Eventually, the family felt as if the church spiritually broke their spirit and decided to leave.  The mother posted a review of the church and how she felt it broke their spirit.  She also has a blog. Well, now she’s being sued by the church.

This story has brought me to question how we treat others about their faith (or lack of it).  Why do we get so hateful about people being of different faiths?  Why do we get so hateful towards the people of the same faith because they follow it differently?  Why do we shun those that we consider disbelievers?  Why must we shame others?

Sadly, no true answers can be found to my questions.

And one last thing, since it it Mother’s Day as I type this, I hope all the mothers I know had a good one. You must forgive me if I didn’t want to celebrate it and treated it like another day.

The Anti-Chef Cooks!
Posted on May 12th, 2012 @ 1:25 pm

I am not a domestic goddess. I’ll admit that.  But today, I decided to try the Southern Biscuits by Alton Brown.  So how did I do?

Well, following the recipe above, I did pre-heat the over to 450°:

Then I put the ingredients in the bowl, except for the buttermilk:

The next step was to mix it up into a crumble. I think this is what he meant:

Crumble mix

Then, I poured into the mix the buttermilk and then mixed it into dough:

And then, once mixed, I had to just do drop biscuits.  My kitchen in my apartment is too tiny to do any cooking.  So, here they are in drop form:

I placed them into the oven and cooked them:

So how did they come out?  I’ll let you see:

Biscuits!

I had one already.  It was OK.  For me anything I cook just doesn’t seem as tasty as when other people cook it.  I follow directions, but still nothing taste good. Later tonight, I am going to experiment with baked chicken and make it based on different ways my mother cooked chicken.  We’ll see how that goes.
