Ducks

Tonight, I decided show my father where my mailbox was located.  On the way back to my apartment, we noticed the decorative pond on the way back was filled with ducks, like pictures above.  No, the picture was not taken tonight.  I grabbed an old box of Cheez-Its and and came back to the pond. We decided to feed the rest of the box to the ducks.  It was quite fun watching the ducks go at the crackers, fighting each other and the fish in the pond.

It was also quite a comfortable night.  I would love to open the windows if there wasn’t fear at the cats would push out the screens.  Graysie got caught once.

And while I’m posting, don’t forget to vote for Tom Delay on Dancing with the Stars.  There is just something about him being on the show that is entertaining.  Be it you think it’s a real joke or that he’s really that good, the point is it’s entertaining.  Let’s keep him around for a few more weeks.  Let’s stay entertained.

What I Miss About Countdown
Posted on September 27th, 2009 @ 4:58 pm

When Countdown with Keith Olbermann first premiered, I watched it. I enjoyed video like the one posted above. No matter what side of the aisle you were on, if you did something stupid enough, you got called out on it just like the woman in this article got called out. Other than that, it stayed strictly with the news, and presented it in a hilariously way.

And over time, either it changed or I did. While I still enjoyed some of the news it presented, when it clearly started insulting Bill O’Reilly and President Bush, I lost interest. There is something different between attacking the story and attacking the players in the story. And most of the time, the insults just went too far for me.

I don’t know how I came across this video, but I did. And it made me miss what I enjoyed about Countdown. I don’t feel the video particularly attacked the woman it was about, but her actions. Did she need to get so upset about being called Liz? Probably not. Also, watching the video made more more inclined to know the whole story than to read it.

Dirty Water
Posted on September 23rd, 2009 @ 8:42 pm

I came home today and it looked like someone hadn’t flushed my toilet.  My dad tried to refill his water bottles.  The water had a brown tint. 🙁  Did I tell you a sewage treatment plant upriver from me failed? Thankfully, we have non-water drinks here at my apartment. Haven’t read a thing about Cobb County having to boil its water.

Have you seen the video of Tom Delay on Dancing with the Stars? I head so much about it, I had to see it:

Video now removed

He’ll be back next week. This could be quite interesting.

By the way, if you can’t see anything I mention in my Facebook feed, these posts come directly from my blog.

This is video of a lamp shade drifting down the swollen Chattahoochee yesterday near my apartment complex:

And video from the river today:

The Chattahoochee River flooding
The Chattahoochee River flooding by peachy92

If you have been watching the news today, you will have seen that it has been horrible in Atlanta!  For the past week, we have had rain.  I thought yesterday it would be over, but it rained all night.  I had to work today, but it was slow at work, and many people did stay home.

Beth and Ben left late this afternoon.  My father didn’t want them to leave because of the weather. They finally left around 3.  Good thing they took I-285 and not I-75 through Atlanta.  They did get home safely.

After I got home from work, my father (who is staying with me while on assignment at Dobbins ARB) and I went to the grocery store.  The Chattahoochee River is flooded.  The river was just about 3 feet under the Power Ferry Rd. bridge.  There was a tree in the middle of the road by the Publix.  We saw a minor landslide in the parking lot.  When we got back, I went out to the river and took pictures, like the one above.  That is a picture of a picnic table at the river area at my complex.

The Governor has declared a state of emergency for my area. I’ll have to see in the morning if work is on.

Time With Beth and Ben

World of Coca-Cola
World of Coca-Cola by peachy92

Beth and Ben planned to come visit me this weekend. They mainly came just to get away from Savannah and to visit me and my father.

Well, it’s been raining all week.  It’s been tough to do stuff they would want to do.  So, knowing we all have World of Coca-Cola passes, the three of us went there for about an hour today. We mainly used my new point and shoot camera, the Polaroid i1037. It’s a nice little camera, but I am going to have to lower the ISO speed. My Fujifilm s5200 is set to a lower ISO and as a result, my pictures aren’t as grainy. The Polaroid shot some grainy pictures with the auto ISO on.

We also had to stop at IKEA for a few things my father wanted for my apartment.  While there, Ben pulled the DEVO look with a trash can.

A Ron Burgundy Moment

This has given me a hearty laugh today. It has offensive language.

Poem To The Lonely
Posted on September 14th, 2009 @ 8:59 pm

Cry and let it all out.
Know you aren’t alone.
While maybe I’m not feeling it at this moment,
I, too, at times feel lonely.
Some days I can take it.
Others I can not.
I question my existence.
I question “the master plan.”
I feel I will be alone forever.
I’m envious of those that have it all
And wonder do they know and cherish what they have.
I have fears of love, too.
I fear that once I have it, I may not be able to hold it.
I fear I won’t appreciate it.
I try to stay optimistic about life.
And for the most part I am.
Yet, I still have to question the emotion of love.
Is it an illusion?
Is it true?
Why does my heart ache?
Then I stop and think and realize I’m not alone.
There are others out there that feel the same.
The world is big.
Maybe one day I won’t be alone.
Honestly, to God, I hope.
However, I’m sure another person is feeling my emotions.
I just want to tell them they aren’t alone.
Keep hope and thankfully the “master plan” will reward you.
I know I do.

Writer’s note:

11/26/03 – Honestly written when I’m feeling down. I think I understand the source of my little depression for today. Today would be my grandmother’s 80th birthday. Depression is a funny thing. You’ll be blue over one thing and spend your time and effort crying over something else. Plus, it doesn’t help listening to Céline Dion sing about the wonders of love when you are depressed.

9/14/09 – Reposting one of my most popular pieces ever on my site.  I find it to be a universal feeling.

Slowly Getting This In Order
Posted on September 13th, 2009 @ 1:35 pm

I am slowly adapting things from my old blog incarnation that I did enjoy into this new blog.  If things look wonky, that’s why.

So far, I have added my Flickr badge again, as well a Twitter feed.

Actually, this rebirth is doing wonders for my web site skills.  I sure have let them lag.
